GRANTS PROGRAM - February 2011 Bulletin Ready For Down Load
California State budget cuts are an increasing concern. With talks of State Park closures, classroom sizes doubling and Police Department layoffs and most recently a proposed $750 million cut to services for the developmentally disabled community we should all be concerned. It is human nature to focus first on what directly affects us at home. What is seldom brought to light is how our special needs community is affected. Many residential care facilities, adult day programs, special education classes and parents have been feeling the pinch for years now.
In fact, programs funded by the State’s Regional Centers are on a steady decline and cannot meet the demand of their growing number of clients. From health and dental care, respite, and social activities, cuts are being made left and right. For many CARH brings hope. Implemented in 1974, CARH’s Grant Program has filled the gap for those who have exhausted all other resources; grant funding ranges from dental work, special equipment, camp grants and much more. CARH does not receive any government funding. All of our programs and services are funded through our household recycling program or through private donations. On pages 8 and 9 are examples of how CARH’s Grant Program has enriched the lives of those living with intellectual disabilities.
